The Iowa Department of Administrative Services is seeking a doctoral level psychologist to evaluate claims for disability benefits administered by the Social Security Administration. The Division of Student Affairs is seeking applications for two part-time Staff Therapist positions for Grinnell’s Student Health and Counseling Services, a new, combined center opening in the fall, 2010, semester. These positions will entail 20 hours of work per week beginning on August 24, 2010 and ending on May 20, 2011, with breaks during the fall (October 15 through October 24, 2010), winter (December 23, 2010 through January 3, 2011), and spring (March 19, 2011 through April 3, 2011).
Responsibilities: The Staff Therapist will provide the highest level of ethical counseling services for Grinnell College students. Reporting to the Director of Student Health and Counseling Services/Lead Psychologist, this college mental health professional will focus primarily on providing direct counseling services to students. The individual in this position will also participate in outreach, consultation, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Doctorate or Master’s degree (PhD, PsyD, MSW, or comparable degree) in counseling or clinical psychology, social work, or closely-related field; Well-developed clinical and diagnostic skills and experience in working with college students; Proven capability of providing highest standard of counseling services to a diverse clientele; Knowledge of and commitment to the application of the highest standards of legal and ethical principles; Knowledge of college student development and mental health; Experience in written and electronic forms of data collection and management; Well-developed written and oral communication skills; Commitment to liberal arts education; Commitment to an environment of inclusion and diversity.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a college or university counseling center with some experience in the student affairs field; Specific training and experience with eating disorders and/or with substance use/abuse prevention and treatment with a college student population; Licensed or license-eligible.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The Therapist Position requires a Master's degree in social work or counseling, one to three years of relevant professional experience. [Master's degree in social work or counseling counts toward one year of relevant professional experience. Licensure at least at the LMSW or equivalent level.
SUPERVISION REQUIREMENTS:
The Therapist position reports directly to the Director of Mental Health and Community Based Services and attends scheduled weekly forum and other meetings as needed.

Demonstrated ability to conceptualize case treatment and express conceptualization and knowledge base clearly. Demonstrated ability to organize time and effort in order to meet work demands. Must be organized, have strong oral and written communication skills, be detail-oriented, have proficiency with standard computer software packages. Must possess the ability to maintain a positive consistent attitude in working with staff and clients, including holding the belief that people have the capacity to grow and change. This position is a mandatory child abuse reporter and must be re-certified every five years.

The position includes outpatient and inpatient individual, marital and family therapy. We are seeking a generalist with an Integrative or similar orientation who is able to treat a wide variety of diagnoses and problems.
