This workshop will present an overview of the various ethical dilemmas and challenges fa ced by psychologists in their clinical work. Available data of vulnerable areas for practitioners will be provided to increase practitioner's awarene ss, including from the Insurance Trust regarding primary allegations in los ses; the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) summ ary of reported disciplinary actions for psychologists by licensing boards; and the American Psychological Association Ethics Office summary of number and types of complaints. Strategies to prevent violations will be reviewe d, including basic tasks for professional ethics, moral principles that und erlie the Ethics Code standards, and information from various guidelines. A model for resolving ethical dilemmas will be provided as foundation for de veloping an ethical orientation to aid in ethical decision making. An updat e on the revision of the APA Ethics Code will be provided.

rs to provide culturally competent services. Cultural competence includes t
he understanding how culture influences the experiences of distress, dysfun
ction, strength and resilience. The purpose of this talk is to provide an e
vidence-based analysis of how one may develop culturally appropriate skills
, knowledge and attitudes. A review of evidence-based analysis will be prov
ided of how providers may unintentionally interfere with development of qua
lity alliances with those different from them, and how this may contribute
to barriers to effective culturally competent services. Strategies to reduc
e bias and enhance effectiveness will be discussed.
