 Allison Momany (she/her) is a clinical psychologist and post-doctoral scholar at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. She completed her PhD at the University of Iowa and did internship at Hennepin Healthcare in Minneapolis, MN. While on internship, she trained in the multi-disciplinary Pediatric Gender and Sexual Health Clinic to learn gender affirming practices and care for youth. Dr. Momany and her Hennepin colleagues presented a symposium on Gender-Affirming Care for Non-binary Youth at the WPATH 2022 International Scientific Symposium. Dr. Momany is passionate about increasing gender literacy for providers and community members and advocating for gender diverse youth.

About This Workshop
The training will start by reviewing gender terms to expand attendee gender literacy. A brief exploration of cultural differences in gender norms will follow, including self-exploration of one’s own gender identity. Next, attendees will learn about the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care and what practices are allowed in the state of Iowa. Finally, attendees will identify ways to gender-affirming practices to implement in clinical care and learn about additional resources.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
o Increase gender literacy and understanding of gender-related terms o Review WPATH SOC8 treatment guidelines o Learn what gender-affirming practices are allowed per state legislation o Identify gender-affirming practices to implement in clinical practice
