Ketamine: Trends, Myths, Research and Clinical Care (1.5 Hours)

Rick Barnett, PsyD, MSCP is a licensed clinical psychologist, licensed alcohol and drug counselor with an MS in Clinical Psychopharmacology. He runs a private group practice focusing on adults, older adults, and state-mandated patients for alcohol use and other drug use disorders. He co-founded the Psychedelic Society of Vermont in 2021 after completing a yearlong training in psychedelic psychotherapy and research through the California Institute for Integral Studies (CIIS), and is the Founder and CEO of CARTER, Inc, a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to the art and science of achieving lifelong freedom from addictive disorders. Dr. Barnett began providing Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) after completing two KAP training programs in 2021. Through the Psychedelic Society of VT, Rick has organized and directed group ketamine-assisted psychotherapy training for clinicians and has trained over 40 local clinicians in the past two years. He has served as President of APA Society for Prescribing Psychology (Division 55, 2020), President of the VT Psychological Association (2011-2014) and current Chair of the Legislative Committee working on Prescriptive Authority and psilocybin decriminalization in Vermont. Rick loves the outdoors, is in long-term recovery from addiction, and enjoys being curious and connecting with others.

This presentation will discuss the myths and current research regarding the use of ketamine for mental health disorders.

2.  Be able to state current diagnoses being treated with ketamine
3.  Learn about the current research outlining clinical use of prescribed ketamine for mental health disorders
